A new model in which an iterative detection is supported by extrinsic information from equalisers is proposed. Furthermore, the system performance involving extrinsic information from an opposite direction one‐dimensional soft output Viterbi algorithm is examined. The work is applied to holographic data storage (HDS) systems. The HDS systems are well known as a future storage system because of their extremely large storage capacity and high data transfer rates. However, the system faces two‐dimensional interference challenges. The results show that the proposed model vastly improves the performance of the HDS system under severe interference.
