The frame slotted aloha‐based medium access control (MAC) protocol for low energy critical infrastructure monitoring networks under non‐saturated traffic scenarios (packets arrive to and queue in the buffer) is analysed. The results can be used in the design of a system by providing optimum system parameters for endpoints satisfying a given quality of service. The model is validated against simulation.
