A new starting strategy is presented for brushless DC motors (BLDCMs) without rotor position sensors. This strategy can accelerate the rotor by regulating commutation frequency to be suitable for the supplied voltage according to the waveform of average terminal voltages. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the strategy.
