The design of an efficient multicast for a scalable video coding (SVC) streaming combined with directional beamforming is a challenging issue. A quality of experience (QoE)‐aware directional beam scheduling (QBS) scheme is proposed which optimises overall QoE for a multirate multicast of SVC, with beamforming in wireless networks. Different SVC layers to different beams and rate modulations are optimally scheduled. A mixed integer linear programming formulation of the problem is provided and a heuristic algorithm is proposed. Results show that QBS can increase the overall QoE and can satisfy the minimum expected QoE for all users.
