The dissimilarity representation for pattern recognition has proved to be a feasible alternative to the traditional feature based approach. It is shown that the application of the Parzen classifier, in the so‐called generalised dissimilarity space by feature lines, may improve the recognition performance obtained by other classification rules in the original dissimilarity space and in the generalised dissimilarity space.
