Analysis of variation in pheromone amounts and ratios between individuals is usually performed separately for amounts and ratios of the different components. Non‐parametric tests are regularly applied. This way of analysis is statistically correct, yet, limited for several reasons. The use of a parametric linear mixed model approach to analyze both amounts and ratios of different components at the same time is proposed. This method appears to be very flexible and may facilitate the analysis of pheromone data.
