A patient with polycythemia rubra vera developed marked thrombocytosis and hemorrhage after splenectomy. Plateletpheresis with a blood processor proved to be a sale, efficient, and rapid method for the mechanical removal of large quantities of platelets prior to adequate control with chemotherapy.
