This case report discussed 2 children with herpes zoster ophthalmicus as the first manifestation of varicella‐zoster virus infection. Both children's mothers had varicella while they were pregnant, but the children did not have a history of clinical varicella following birth. The authors concluded that the children were infected transplacentally with complete resolution of the features of the disease at the time of delivery. Such cases of childhood herpes zoster without a history of clinical varicella infection are rare in literature.
