Cutaneous haemangiomas can be a cosmetic problem mainly because of their colour and due to any secondarily‐associated lesions which the patient feels to be unattractive. Strawberry marks and portwine stains are common malformations and it is recommended that they are treated by laser as early as possible. Strawberry marks usually appear shortly after birth and develop for a short while before shrinking. The subsequently damaged skin, however, may have a rough and wrinkled appearance which sometimes needs surgical correction. Portwine stains are usually present at birth. 1 The lesion does not diminish and the colour darkens later. Some nodules, named hypertrophic portwine stains, will appear later in life within the macular lesions and also need to be treated surgically.
