Background The aim of the study is to determine effectiveness of transvaginal ultrasound (TV‐USG) examination in predicting myometrial invasion of the endometrial cancer. Method Some patients of endometrial cancer, were examined under TV‐USG examination. All TV‐USG procedures were done by the same person and by the same ultrasound equipment between 1.9.1998 and 31.12.1999. After then, patients were operated, and pathological examination of the specimens were done as routine procedure. Results Twenty‐six cases who were in this research, were in stage 1 except 4 who were in stage 4. Histopathologic type of 22 cases was endometrioid cell cancer and grade‐1 in 58.3% cases. Ultrasound examination revealed 76.9% similarity with pathological results. Positive predictivity was 94.4% and the negative predictivity was 37.5%. Conclusion TV‐USG diagnosis of endometrial invasion of cancer, may be a useful technique in predetermining the way of treatment while the depth of invasion is an important key as well as histopathology and grade of the tumor.
