ICN's theme for its centennial in 1999 is “Celebrating Nursing's Past; Claiming the Future”. Cross‐cultural partnerships to support and develop nurses' associations in financially deprived countries are one way the better‐off nurses' associations are ensuring that nurses everywhere can claim their future. Such a cooperation project developed by the Danish Nurses' Organization in cooperation with the Romanian Nurses' Association and the UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) office in Romania is described below * .
