We previously reported analyses of basal hymenopteran relationships using fragments of the COI and 16S rDNA mitochondrial genes, employing models of analysis that ate considered contentious by some. For the COI protein‐coding gene, we assessed non‐synonymous changes only, while for the 16S rDNA fragment, we analysed all positions, but down‐weighted AT‐transversions. In the present study, we describe and justify in greater detail these models of analysis.
