It has been recommended that all patients with proven colorectal cancer should have a total colon check. This prospective study examines the practical implementation of this recommendation. It demonstrates the extent to which clinical practice may appear to drift away from a guideline, whilst remaining entirely justifiable. This has implications for future attempts to audit the implementation of guidelines.
