Currently available video‐endoscopes provide improved, more distinct images, permitting to some degree detailed assessment of the surface structure of lesions. The recent introduction of adapted type IHb color enhancement is expected to increase the detection rate of pathological changes that were previously difficult to detect, such as type IIc lesions, when used with conventional functions. Index of hemoglobin color enhancement also enables visualization of minute vascular changes associated with inflammatory diseases. This capability is therefore expected to contribute to further progress in clinical diagnosis and endoscopic research.
