SUMMARY A rare neustonic green coccoid alga, Nautococcus mammilatus Korschikov from Hubei Province in P.R. China was observed in culture using light and electron microscopy. Ultrastructural observations were mainly made on the cap formation and starch accumulation around the pyrenoid matrix. Accommodation of Nautococcus in the Chlorococcales is discussed.
