Abstract The capacity of haploid production by anther culture has been analysed in 42 crossbred genotypes (wild type) and in 32 genotypes from inbreeding generations (I 2 ‐I 3 ) of wheatgrass, Agropyron glaucum. On potato‐2 medium, about 50% of the genotypes investigated were capable of embryoid and callus induction. For the regeneration of haploid plants, five media containing various growth regulators were used. The crossbred genotypes were superior to the inbred lines in all the androgenesis parameters examined.
