On the anatomical and biological role of the movement of the thorax in the dog and cat: Development of the gonometrical measuring method has allowed the respiratory movement of the lateral chest wall and the sternum to be investigated. The mobility of a single rib varies enormously in gradual transitions. There are distinct differences between species. For of a number of reasons; the cat can achieve more intense thoracic respiration than the dog.
