Some veterinary practices are looking at expanding hours to grab more market share or to allow their overheads to be spread over more income transactions. But there are some basic premises that need to be assessed before jumping into the fray. First of all, there is a difference between an Urgent‐Care facility and an Emergency Practice. There are working hours for doctors and staff to be considered as well as economic trade‐offs. Community demographics, equipment needed and training are the other issues to be considered. There is more to it than to just increased access.
