Ann Maree Rees, the founding editor of the Journal of Consumer Studies and Home Economics, had a great interest in students of all ages, developing their research skills and fulfilling their academic potential. She believed strongly in encouraging a life‐long learning culture and providing opportunities for people to develop an interest in the field of consumer studies and home economics. She was herself an accomplished author. The Editorial Board has decided to establish an essay competition in memory of Ann Maree Rees.
