Summary • Evidence‐based practice has been widely discussed in the literature, but it is not common or well adopted in nursing practice, both in Hong Kong and other countries. • This article aims to examine the relationships between three important elements of evidence‐based practice: systematic reviews, clinical guidelines and protocols. Current issues associated with evidence‐based practice in Hong Kong are explored. • Specific suggestions are given to researchers, practitioners, managers and academics so that the current situation can be advanced.
