A randomized sampling protocol coupled with quantitative morphometry has been used to evaluate the inter‐lobe variation in centrilobular hepatic necrosis in the mouse, and periportal hepatic necrosis in the β‐naphthoflavone‐induced rat, both in response to treatment with coumarin. The results of these studies indicate a random inter‐lobe variation in xenobiotic‐mediated hepatotoxicity.
