A crushed fossil fish‐head, discovered on a Lower Carboniferous flagstone from the Isle of Man, proves to be the only known articulated specimen of the early ratfish Psammodus . This is a major discovery, which promises to cast light on a key episode in the evolution of shark‐like fishes.
