Red porgy Pagrus pagrus from the north‐eastern, north‐western and south‐western Atlantic were found to be genetically distinct as determined by mitochondrial DNA analysis. There were no shared composite restriction fragment haplotypes, and nucleotide sequence differences averaged 2% among these locations.
