Summary We report a case of subcutaneous infection caused by the dermatophyte Microsporum gypseum in an immunocompetent host. The patient acquired the infection in the knee through a traumatic inoculation of a splinter. To our knowledge this is the first case of subcutaneous infection caused by this fungus.
