Summary Recombination was observed between temperature‐sensitive ( ts ) mutants of two immunological types of foot‐and‐mouth disease virus which were distinguishable by two marker characteristics in addition to their antigenic type. Putative ts+ recombinants were isolated and the segregation patterns of their marker characteristics examined. The results are discussed in terms of the origin of new sub‐type strains.
