Summary The effect of the ingestion of Swainsona galegifolia on the liver lysosomes of the guinea‐pig has been investigated. The activity of at least one lysosomal hydrolase has been shown to be elevated in both liver homogenates and serum, and certain physical properties of isolated lysosomes were found to be abnormal. It is considered that these findings add weight to the hypothesis that the swainsona lesion is the visible manifestation of a storage process, although the exact nature of the process is yet to be resolved.
