Summary The serum transferrin and ceruloplasmin concentrations in 1,032 patients with cancer and 256 healthy controls were determined by radial immunodiffusion. Transferrin concentrations were significantly lowered in most groups of patients, irrespective of the tissue primarily involved. A positive correlation between transferrin and haemoglobin concentrations was found in the patients. A negative regression of transferrin concentration on age was observed for females. Ceruloplasmin concentrations were significantly increased in most groups of patients. Females had significantly higher ceruloplasmin levels than males.
