Summary Semen and blood were collected from 19 HK and 12 LK rams and the concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium estimated in the spermatozoa and erythrocytes. HK sheep had a characteristically high potassium and low sodium concentration in the erythrocytes but there was no difference in the calcium and magnesium concentrations. The concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium in the spermatozoa were very similar for the two groups of sheep.
