Summary Strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from milk were examined for production of alpha, beta and delta haemolysins. Of 1,066 strains tested 81·3% produced all three lysins and all other patterns were noted. There was no difference in the occurrence of the lysins in strains from acute mastitis, sub‐clinical mastitis and normal quarters.
