Summary Starch gel electrophoresis of serum samples from 303 healthy adult Australians of known ABO blood group revealed 2 major zones of alkaline phosphatase activity. As reported by other workers, the staining intensity of the slower‐moving B zone varied between individuals, and this was associated with the ABO blood group of the donor. The majority of sera from group A donors showed little or no B zone activity, whereas sera from individuals of other ABO groups showed a wide range of B zone activity. Spectrophoto‐metric studies showed that the mean serum alkaline phosphatase activity of group B and O individuals was 18% higher than that of group A, group AB being intermediate in activity.
