SUMMARY An in vitro technique is described which is suitable for testing the ability of compounds to protect aorta cells against cholesterol‐induced lipoid deposition. However, some compounds known to be active in reducing the serum cholesterol level in humans were not effective in preventing lipoid deposition in vitro .
