SUMMARY Rats fed on a folic acid‐deficient diet regularly excrete formiminoglutamic acid in the urine. The vitamin B 12 and folic acid status of such rats was estimated by assay of liver tissue for these vitamins. Formiminoglutamic acid excretion occurs in the presence of normal liver vitamin B 12 concentrations. There appears to be a critical level of liver folic acid below which there is excretion of formiminoglutamic acid.
