Intraflagellar transport (IFT) is essential for cilia biogenesis and maintenance. This demands functional coordination with selective, cell‐type‐specific cargo transport. A new study published in The EMBO Journal determines molecular and functional interactions between IFT components and transported cargo proteins that might impact on cilia‐related diseases.
