One feature of neurodegenerative disorders is the accumulation of β‐sheet‐rich misfolded proteins, but how these proteins trigger cell death is not clear. Resenberger and coworkers report in this issue that the cellular prion protein can mediate neurotoxic signalling of various β‐sheet‐rich conformers.
