Counterfeits, illegal diversion, cargo thefts, and substandard drugs infiltrate pharmaceutical supply chains. This has been prevalent on a global basis but is now a growing problem in the United States. Manufacturers play a pivotal role in addressing this issue. However, while they are already required to ensure the integrity of the components used in their products, they must also work with trading partners to strengthen distribution channels. This paper is intended to make readers aware of some of these efforts. Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (2011) 89 2, 316–319. doi: 10.1038/clpt.2010.288
