There is much hope for progress in twenty‐first–century health care. Scientific and technological advances, particularly in the areas of genetics and genomics, are significant reasons for this hope. Increased understanding of the genetic etiologies of disease and illness may provide new opportunities for interventions that promise better treatment for and prevention of disease.
