In all organisms, progression of the cell cycle is associated with phase‐specific transcription of cell cycle genes. From the eight cDNAs hitherto identified as representing cell cycle control genes of Chenopodium rubrum , two are new, namely a B‐type CDK and an E2F transcription factor, which are reported in this communication. The CDKB;1 was identified by its PPTALRE cyclin binding motif, the conserved ATP‐binding domain, the typical T‐Loop and phosphoregulatory sites. The E2F transcription factor was identified by its DNA‐ and Rb‐binding domain, the conserved leucine zipper and the ‘marked box’. The GenBank accession numbers are AJ278885 and AJ278884 , respectively.
