This paper examines an EPA proposal to regulate the corrosivity of drinking water in a benefit‐cost framework. The principal benefits from reducing corrosivity include improvements in health and lower maintenance expenditures for water supply systems and households. Despite considerable uncertainty over the magnitude of these benefits, treatment seems warranted, with the possible exception of very small systems.
