A mathematical model of the water table fluctuation in an unconfined aquifer subjected to a typical localized transient recharge is presented. The aquifer is taken to be homogeneous, isotropic, underlain by a horizontal impermeable base, and linked with a surface reservoir on one side. Sensitivity characteristics of the water table due to variations in the rate of recharge, hydraulic conductivity, and specific yield are illustrated with the help of a numerical example.
