A new approximation for two‐dimensional Dupuit‐Forchheimer flow of groundwater over a sloping bed is shown to be acceptable up to slope angles of at least 30°, when compared with known results for two steady flow situations. The approximation is suitable for three‐dimensional numerical modeling and is recommended for situations in which the flow pattern is controlled by the bed slope.
