Traditionally in hydrology and soil physics, wetting fronts appearing in porous media described by Darey's law have not generally been considered to be singular surfaces. Some recent results from functional analysis are presented as evidence supporting the viewpoint that wetting fronts with a finite propagating speed generally are singular surfaces.
