Hourly values of daytime energy balance components were obtained for 5 days in late summer at a wooded swamp in southern Ontario. Bowen ratio estimates of the energy used in evaporation were compared with values obtained from the equilibrium form of the combination model. Agreement between the two methods was found to be poor for hourly values but better in the case of daytime totals, where the proportion of Bowen ratio to equilibrium estimates varied from 0.7 to 1.04. The results did not support the use of a potential evaporation formula despite an apparently nonlimiting supply of moisture in the soil.
