A relatively economical procedure for monitoring temporal, spatial, and vertical changes in groundwater quality is presented. In this in situ water sampling technique, large samples (1.1 l) are obtained from a 2‐ft vertical interval of the groundwater column. This procedure permits the quantification of the dynamic nature of groundwater contamination and allows for interpretation of areal sources and the extent of their contamination within the groundwater reservoir.
