A general numeric method is described for estimating one‐dimensional infiltration, redistribution, evaporation, and drainage of water from soil. The type of flow is determined by the water flux at the surface of soil or the bottom boundary. The method provides for hysteresis in the water content‐pressure head relation. Comparison with measurement made on soil columns for infiltration, redistribution, and evaporation were made. Good agreement was obtained between measured and computed values.
