Measurement of snow accumulation for the year from summer 1967 to summer 1968 on Mt. Logan, St. Elias Mountains, Yukon Territory, Canada, indicates that annual precipitation is approximately 0.65 meters yr −1 for elevations between 3350 and 5400 meters. This is less by a factor of 5 than annual precipitation at sea level on the Gulf of Alaska. On a regional basis precipitation decreases inland from the Pacific Ocean at a rate of approximately 2 × 10 −5 meters km −1 . Precipitation decreases on the windward and increases on the leeward sides of the St. Elias Mountains with respect to elevation.
