In the month of May, 1908, by the kindness of the Captain and officers of the S. S. “Lake Erie,” observations were made, between Montreal and Liverpool, on the radioactive deposit collected on a wire, charged negatively by a Zamboni dry pile, and exposed in the air for a few hours. The wire was insulated by ebonite rods, and suspended from the flag halyards. After exposure it was coiled on a skeleton reel and placed in an electroscope. The latter was clamped to a board, together with the observing microscope.
