The Elat Deep is a large pull‐apart basin, about 50 km long, within the Gulf of Elat (Aqaba). Its southern end displays many details of the way in which a pull‐apart basin is terminated at one of its ends. A marine geophysical study has revealed that the southern edge of the basin consists of a complicated deformed zone which contains several distinct active faults, and faults which were recently active. They strike at a large oblique angle to the long dimension of the Elat Deep. Most of the faults display dipslip offsets, although a lateral slip component may also be present on some faults.
