The dispersion characteristics and coupling of modes propagating along a wire parallel to a strip grating of finite width are studied experimentally. The structure supports a radiating fast wave together with a second mode that could be fast or slow, depending on the frequency and the width of the grating. The experimental results agree reasonably well with predictions based on periodically loaded transmission line theory.
