The impulse response for reflection from an ionospheric layer with a sech 2 electron density profile is investigated. A constant electron collision frequency is assumed, and approximate results are obtained for reflection at oblique incidence under the influence of a vertical earth's magnetic field. Fast Fourier transform techniques are used to evaluate the impulse response, and an asymptotic expression is derived for the envelope of the response. Numerical examples are shown for some representative cases of E and F layer reflection.
