This special issue of Radio Science contains papers presented at the URSI International Symposium on Radio Probing of the High‐Latitude Ionosphere and Atmosphere: New Techniques and New Results held in Fairbanks, Alaska, August 9–13, 1982. This symposium was sponsored by the International Union of Radio Science, Commissions G and H, the University of Alaska, USNC/URSI, U.S. Air Force Geophysics Laboratory, the National Science Foundation and Alascom, Inc. Ninety‐seven papers were presented at the symposium, of which some were already in the publication process and some were not submitted for publication in this issue of Radio Science . The papers were submitted to Radio Science following announcements in the symposium brochure, EOS , and Radio Science .
